21 DAYS OF PRAYER
Dear Praying Friends:
During these days of national and international turmoil, the Church has a message of hope for herself and all peoples. One spiritual "nuclear" weapon we all have at our disposal is "prayer and fasting". NATIONQUEST™ is one of our ministry thrusts to "help the nations find the blessings of God." Please join us in a NATIONQUEST™ "Call to 21 Days of Prayer and Fasting for the Church and the Nations" this coming October 10-30, or whatever 21-day period works best for you. In the prayer guide below, you will find Scriptures for each day, which you may pray over and through, letting them serve as catalysts for your intercession to God. Seek the LORD as to His will for you and yours as to what part He would have you play in this special emphasis. Challenge your churches, small groups, families, individuals and friends to take part with you in this strategic ministry. And, please feel free to copy, disseminate and e-mail this tool as far and wide as possible. It is our ministry to you. As you pray, ask our Heavenly Father for: 1) the power to faithfully declare His Law and grace to the nations (Matthew 5:17-19; Acts 1:8); 2) deliverance from "inevitable" calamities looming on the world's horizon (Isaiah 49:24-26); and 3) the growth of His Church-Around-the-World (Matthew 16:18). We have the assurance that "our labor is not in vain in the LORD". (I Corinthians 15:58) May God richly bless you as you "pray and fast"! Yours in the Powerful Name of JESUS our Crucified and Risen Lord, Carey Childrey ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ DAY 1:
Scripture Reading: " Is this not the fast that I have chosen: to loose the bonds of wickedness; to undo the heavy burdens; to let the oppressed go free, and that you break every yoke?” (Isaiah 58:6) Call to Prayer: What is the “nuclear” weapon that we have in our spiritual armor of weaponry from the LORD? It is prayer and fasting. JESUS warns us,“When you fast, be not, as the hypocrites, of a sad countenance: for they disfigure their faces, that they may appear unto men to fast.” (Matthew 6:16) Therefore, we are to go about life as normal. The Old Testament talks about abstinence from food as a time to “afflict” our souls. (cf. 58:3) However, we can know that God will answer when we mix prayer with fasting.“When you pray, enter into your closet, and when you have shut your door, pray to your Father which is in secret; and your Father which sees in secret shall reward you openly.” (Matthew 6:6) When the disciples asked JESUS why they could not cast out a certain demon, He replied, “This kind goes not out but by prayer and fasting.” (Matthew 17:20-21) Are we praying and fasting that we might see the promises as we pray according to His will? DAY 2: Scripture Reading: "Listen, O coast lands, to Me, and take heed, you peoples from afar! The LORD has called Me from the womb; From the matrix of My mother He has made mention of My name. And He has made My mouth like a sharp sword; in the shadow of His hand He has hidden Me, and made Me a polished shaft. In His quiver He has hidden Me. And He said to me, 'You are My servant, O Israel, in whom I will be glorified.'" (Isaiah 49:1-3 ^NKJ ) Call to Prayer: God commands all peoples near and far to hear and understand that He will be glorified in "My Servant, O Israel", who is ultimately none other than His Son, our Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ. (Matthew 2:15; Hosea 11:1) He alone is the fulfillment of all these promises. (Isaiah 53:1-12; cf. II Corinthians 1:19-21) Today, we as believers in Christ, of all nations, have been grafted into "the commonwealth of Israel" through His blood. (Ephesians 2:12, 13; cf. Romans 11:11-17) Therefore, the LORD wants to be "glorified" through us as the Church-around-the-World.We consist of believing Jews and Gentiles today, as well as all those who will come to Christ tomorrow (Galatians 6:16; cf. Romans 11:22-36). We are to be His "mouthpiece" to declare the word of God (Hebrews 4:12) to the peoples, and His "polished shaft" to prophesy His judgment to the nations. (Revelation 10:11) Are we ready, willing and able to fulfill our God-given task? Only faith in our Lord Jesus Christ and prayer in His Holy Spirit can prepare us.Will you respond today as He calls and leads you? DAY 3: Scripture Reading: "Then I said, 'I have labored in vain, I have spent my strength for nothing and in vain; Yet surely my just reward is with the LORD, and my work with my God.'" (Isaiah 49:4^NKJ ) Call to Prayer: Have you ever felt discouraged in your ministry and prayers? Have you ever believed that your work for the Lord might be in vain?Christ, who "was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin (Hebrews 4:15), surely felt this temptation as well. However, if we pray and fast in the Spirit - seeking the Lord with all of our hearts (Jeremiah 29:13) and allowing the LORD to show us how we are to pray (Romans 8:26-28) - we can be assured this our ministry will not "amount to nothing".*"*Therefore, my beloved brethren, be you steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your labor is not in vain in the Lord." (Corinthians 15:58) Will you claim this truth in Christ, scribed by the prophet, that "my just reward is with the LORD, and my work with my God'"?(49:4) If so, pray and fast as a: church; small group; family, and individual as the LORD leads and enables, over these 21 days, as you are able to dedicate or carve out the time. You can rest assured that your efforts will not be in vain. They will impact not only your church, your family, and you as an individual, as well as the Church-around-the-World.They will also end up impacting all the Nations for Christ as well. DAY 4: Scripture Reading: "And now the LORD says, who formed me from the womb to be His Servant, to bring Jacob back to Him, so that Israel is gathered to Him (for I shall be glorious in the eyes of the LORD, and my God shall be my strength.) Indeed He says, 'It is too small a thing that You should be My Servant to raise up the tribes of Jacob, and to restore the preserved ones of Israel; I will also give you as a light to the Gentiles, that you should be My salvation to the ends of the earth.'"(Isaiah 49:5,6^NKJ ) Call to Prayer: The LORD says to "My Servant" - that is, God's Son, our Lord Jesus Christ - that it is too small a thing for Him to just be used to bring unbelieving Jews and, by application, the unbelieving Church in our day back to their covenant keeping God.The Father will also make Christ His "salvation to the ends of the earth.'"(49:6)This same role in Christ, who is the "true Israel" of God, we are always meant to play as well. Just look at how Paul and Barnabas "grew bold" and quoted Isaiah 49:6 in Acts 13:46,47 to describe their own missionary team: "It was necessary that the word of God should first have been spoken to you; but seeing you put it from you, and judge yourselves unworthy of everlasting life, lo, we turn to the Gentiles [the Nations]. For so has the Lord commanded us, saying, 'I have set you to be a light of the Gentiles, that you should be for salvation unto the ends of the earth.'" Are we praying and fasting that we might be a greater "light to the Nations", more boldly preaching Christ to Jews, Gentiles and the Church alike? DAY 5: Scripture Reading: "Thus says the LORD, the Redeemer of Israel, his Holy One, to Him whom man despises; to Him whom the nation abhors; to the Servant of rulers: 'Kings shall see and arise, princes also shall worship, because of the LORD who is faithful, the Holy One of Israel; and He has chosen You.'" (Isaiah 49:7) Call to Prayer: JESUS is God's Elect - His Chosen One. Likewise, in Christ, we are God's elect and chosen. In this verse, the LORD is describing His Son, "despised and rejected of men" (53:3), and abhorred by His own nation."He came unto His own and His own received Him not." (John 1:11) JESUS was also "the Servant of rulers", not highly esteemed in His day.yet, now, through the preaching of the Gospel - the death, burial and resurrection of our Glorious Savior - "kings" will continue to recognize His true identity and "stand up" to honor Him, and "princes" will also "worship" Not all will believe; however, as from the time of Christ, many will, and some will yet.The way to effect a nation is through her leaders.Let us pray that many will yet come and "worship" Him, and then call their nation to the same worship as well. (I Timothy 2:1-8)This will not only bring eternal blessings; but earthly ones, here and now, to any people, anywhere, now willing to do so. (Psalm 2:1-12)Let us pray for the power (Acts 1:8) and the open doors so to do. (Colossians 4:3,4) Are we praying and fasting that God would bring more “kings and princes” to His Chosen One? DAY 6: Scripture Reading: "Thus says the LORD: 'In an acceptable time I have heard You, and in the day of salvation I have helped You; I will preserve You and give You as a covenant to the people to restore the earth, to cause them to inherit the desolate heritages. (Isaiah 49:8 ^NKJ ) Call to Prayer: JESUS "in the days of his flesh, when he had offered up prayers and supplications with strong crying and tears unto him that was able to save him from death . . . was heard in what he feared; Though he were a Son, yet learned He obedience by the things which He suffered".(Hebrews 5:7-9) God His Father did "help" Him "in the day of salvation", but only after He yet did not spare Him from "tasting death for every man" in order to make salvation possible.Christ, "preserved" by the resurrection, is now "crowned with glory and honor" (Hebrews 2:9), and God has made Him "a covenant for the people". In the present day as well as in the age to come, He will restore all our defiled environment and cause the peoples of the world in Him to "inherit the desolate heritages". In other words, anything we have lost as to land and legacy, our Lord can and will restore if we will trust and obey Him. What could be greater news to every tribe, tongue, people and nation under the sun, both now and forever? Are we praying and fasting that we would be faithful of “partaking of the sufferings of Christ” (Colossians 1:24), as was Paul, so that we might be used of God “to restore the earth, to cause them to inherit the desolate heritages”(Isaiah 49:8^NKJ )? DAY 7: Scripture Reading: "That You may say to the prisoners, 'Go forth'; to those who are in darkness, 'Show yourselves.' They shall feed along the roads, and their pastures shall be on all desolate heights.” (Isaiah 49:9 ^NKJ ) Call to Prayer: When JESUS was on earth, he set free those who were demon possessed and sent them out.He speaks to us when we are in darkness, and tells us to come out into the light and realize we no longer need to hide. For those of us who become our Savior's sheep, He provides us food along all the ways of our lives. In fact, Christ even turns the "desolate heights" into wonderful feeding spots. JESUS promised, " Truly, truly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do he will do also; and greater works than these he will do, because I go to My Father." (John 14:12) Are we doing greater works in our lives today? If not, why not? When the disciples could not cast out a demon, they asked, "Why not?"JESUS replied, "Because of your unbelief; for assuredly, I say to you, if you have faith as a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, 'Move from here to there,' and it will move; and nothing will be impossible for you. However, this kind does not go out except by prayer and fasting." (Matthew 17:20-21 ^NKJ ) Are we willing to pray and fast to declare freedom to prisoners and see people come out of darkness? DAY 8: Scripture Reading: "They shall neither hunger nor thirst, neither heat nor sun shall strike them; for He who has mercy on them will lead them, even by the springs of water He will guide them. (Isaiah 49:10 ^NKJ ) Call to Prayer: On July 17, 2012, "Drought Covers about 55% of Continental U.S. - Largest Percentage since 1956" headlined the news. That article did not mention all the vicious thunderstorms, lightning attacks and wildfires that had also been plaguing the U.S. in the prior months. What will the results be when you read this "Call to Prayer"? Isaiah had declared the problem of the disobedient Nation and his Church in his day:"Therefore as the fire devours the stubble, and the flame consumes the chaff; so their root shall be as rottenness, and their blossom shall go up as dust; because they have cast away the Law of the LORD of hosts, and despised the Word of the Holy One of Israel." (Isaiah 5:24) For the nation, church, family or individual who "casts away" the Law of God, and rejects the inerrant Scriptures, nothing but cursing and judgment await. However, to those who will come to Christ, He will give them the power and desire to keep the Law.We are saved "that the righteousness of the Law might be fulfilled in us who walk not after the flesh but after the Spirit". (Romans 8:4) Are we praying and fasting for God in Christ to lead us and others “even by the springs of water”, especially in times of drought and disaster? DAY 9: Scripture Reading: "And I will make all My mountains a way, and My highways shall be exalted.Behold, these shall come from far, and, lo, these from the north and from the west; and these from the land of Sinim." (Isaiah 49:11,12) Call to Prayer: Who are "these" (49:12)?Isaiah has already defined them."Fear not, for I am with you. I will bring your seed from the east, and gather you from the west. I will say to the north, ‘Give up, and to the south, keep not back; bring my sons from far, and my daughters from the ends of the earth.Even every one that is called by My name." (Isaiah 43:5-7a)**/ However, who is this favored "seed" who is coming from near and far?It is the restored, spiritual "Israel", which includes not only believing Jews, but also believing Gentiles. "Now to Abraham and his Seed were the promises made. [God] says not, 'And to seeds', as of many; but as of one, 'And to your Seed', who is Christ." (Galatians 3:16)//This is the "seed" to whom all the promises to Israel will one day be fulfilled and the New Heavens and the New Earth revealed. (Revelation 21, 22). God is continuing to seek to save those who are lost among the Nations who will be willing to come to Him! For instance, the obedient church in Sinim (which is CHINA) is flourishing and growing, and impacting her own nation for Christ economically and politically, even among difficult conditions. Are we praying and fasting for God to make more “mountains a way”? DAY 10: Scripture Reading: "Sing, O heavens; and be joyful, O earth; and break forth into singing, O mountains; for the LORD has comforted His people, and will have mercy upon His afflicted. (Isaiah 49:13) Call to Prayer: When Isaiah wrote these words, he had just prophesied of Judah's coming downfall and the certain destruction of Jerusalem and the Temple. The Apostle Peter warns of the same principle of impending doom which will come upon a disobedient Church and her respective Nations: "For the time has come that judgment must begin at the house of God; and if it first begins with us, what shall the end be of them that obey not the Gospel of God?" (1 Peter 4:17) However, Isaiah does not leave the people of God without hope. The LORD will "comfort" His people, and will show "mercy" to His afflicted - BUT only as they "obey the Gospel of God", preached through His faithful missionaries! "For the Son of God, Jesus Christ, who was preached among you by us . . . was not 'Yes' and 'No', but in Him was 'Yes'. For all the promises of God in Him are 'Yes', and in Him 'Amen', unto the glory of God by us." (II Corinthians 1:19-20) All Nations, religions, churches, families and individuals need "comfort" and "mercy", especially after the Sovereign God's promised judgment upon men and women who fail to "repent". "Behold, the goodness and severity of God." (Romans 11:22) Are we praying and fasting for the LORD to “comfort His people” and “have mercy on His afflicted? DAY 11: Scripture Reading: "But Zion said, 'The LORD has forsaken me, and my Lord has forgotten me.'" (Isaiah 49:14) Call to Prayer: When we go through God's discipline and judgment, we may be tempted to believe that God has forsaken and forgotten us. "Zion", designating the chosen people of God, with inference to her capital center Jerusalem, certainly felt this way.In Christ, we are part of the "true Zion" today. However, we should never forget God's conditional promise: "If My people, which are called by My name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land." (II Chronicles 7:14) What about the Church in pagan, atheistic or secular lands? We all have the "land" God has given us, and over which we have invited Christ to reign and rule as Lord - our Christian churches, denominations, church buildings, ministries, facilities, seminaries, colleges, schools, businesses, homes and personal lands. If you as a Nation will not repent, will you not as a Church? If you as a Church will not repent, will you not as a family? If you as a family will not repent, will you not as an individual? Are we praying and fasting for power to be used of God to bring comfort to His people in all nations who feel forgotten? DAY 12: Scripture Reading: "Can a woman forget her sucking child, that she should not have compassion on the son of her womb? Yes, they may forget, yet will I not forget you. Behold, I have graven you upon the palms of My hands; your walls are continually before Me." (Isaiah 49:15,16) Call to Prayer: God will not forget "Israel", His Chosen People. However, we must remember that "they are not all Israel, who are of Israel." (Romans 9:6) The Apostle Paul further explains, "I say then, has God cast away His people? . . . God has not cast away His people which He foreknew. . . . Even so then at this present time also there is a remnant according to the election of grace." (Romans 11:1,2,5) Therefore, there will always be only a remnant who will believe in Christ in Israel, and in the Church.Only those who come in faith will be saved and be able to experience the blessings and promises of God; but not one person more than that. "For God has concluded them all [Jew and Gentile] in unbelief, that He might have mercy upon all.” (Romans 11:32) Jerusalem is not the fleshly Jerusalem of today - that "great city, which spiritually is called Sodom and Egypt, where also our Lord was crucified." (Revelation 11:8) This present day Jerusalem "will be trampled down by the Gentiles until the times of the Gentiles are fulfilled." (Luke 21:24) This is the true Holy City to be finally fully manifested in the New Heavens and the New Earth. (Revelation 21,22) Are we praying and fasting that more Jews and Gentiles will see how much loves His people? DAY 13: Scripture Reading: "Your children shall make haste; your destroyers and they that made you waste shall leave you. Lift up your eyes round about; and, behold, all these gather themselves together, and come to you. 'As I live,' says the LORD, 'you shall surely clothe yourself with them all, as with an ornament, and bind them on you, as a bride does.'" (Isaiah 49:17,18) Call to Prayer: What three things are going on here? 1)The believing Jew is making haste to come to "My Servant", Christ Himself, and all the blessings He is promising; 2) The enemies of the "true Israel" in Christ fade away and leave; 3) People from all nations are coming to the "covenant" (49:8), Christ himself, in order to be a part of the "true Israel". As a bride adorns herself with her ornaments, Christ will adorn Himself with these precious ones from the Nations who have repented and believed the Gospel. The Church herself is the Bride of Christ. She is growing because the Servant of God who was sent to turn Jacob back to God is also being used to bring many from the Nations of the world into the "true Israel of God".(49:6) The eternal promises are in view; however, the present day spiritual realities of Christ's work add to the number in the Bride who will experience such deliverance, both now and in the world to come. Are we praying and fasting for many to be added to the Bride of Christ? DAY 14: Scripture Reading: "For your waste and desolate places, and the land of your destruction, will even now be too small for the inhabitants; and those who swallowed you up will be far away.” (Isaiah 49:19^NKJ) Call to Prayer: Isaiah again prophesies of the coming restored Jerusalem: "For behold, I create new heavens and a new earth; and the former shall not be remembered or come to mind. But be glad and rejoice forever in what I create; for behold, I create Jerusalem as a rejoicing, and her people a joy.I will rejoice in Jerusalem, and joy in My people; The voice of weeping shall no longer be heard in her, nor the voice of crying. . . . They shall build houses and inhabit them; they shall plant vineyards and eat their fruit. They shall not build and another inhabit; they shall not plant and another eat; . . . And My elect shall long enjoy the work of their hands. They shall not labor in vain, nor bring forth children for trouble; For they shall be the [lit.,"seed"] of the blessed of the LORD, and their offspring with them. (65:17-19, 21-23)/ The LORD has promised us, "before they call, I will answer; and while they are still speaking, I will hear."(65:24) Are we taking advantage of "praying in the Spirit" (Ephesians 6:18), rejoicing in the fact that we are seated with Christ in the heavenlies (Colossians 3:1-3), where all these future joys are already a reality, yet to be fully manifested and realized? Are we praying and fasting to "endure all things for the elect's sakes, that they may also obtain the salvation which is in Christ Jesus with eternal glory." (II Timothy 2:10) DAY 15: Scripture Reading: "The children you will have, after you have lost the others, will say again in your ears, 'The place is too small for me; Give me a place where I may dwell.'" (Isaiah 49:20^NKJ) Call to Prayer: Isaiah prophesied again of God's blessing upon the future "true Israel", after the fall of the kingdoms of Israel and Judah: "'Sing, O barren, you who have not borne! Break forth into singing, and cry aloud, you who have not labored with child! For more are the children of the desolate than the children of the married woman,' says the LORD." (Isaiah 54:1^NKJ ) The Apostle Paul identifies the Jerusalem in Isaiah 54:1 in Galatians 4:27 as "the Jerusalem above . . . which is the mother of us all [Jewish and Gentile believers]. "Hebrews describes this heavenly, spiritual Jerusalem: "You have come to Mount Zion and to the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, to an innumerable company of angels, to the general assembly and church of the firstborn who are registered in heaven, to God the Judge of all, to the spirits of just men made perfect, to Jesus the Mediator of the new covenant, and to the blood of sprinkling that speaks better things than that of Abel. See that you do not refuse Him who speaks. For if they did not escape who refused Him who spoke on earth, much more shall we not escape if we turn away from Him who speaks from heaven." (Hebrews 12:22-25^NKJ ) Are we praying and fasting that the present Church-Around-the-World would be "too small" to hold all these "new children" coming to Christ? DAY 16: Scripture Reading: "Then you will say in your heart, 'Who has begotten these for me, since I have lost my children and am desolate, a captive, and wandering to and fro? And who has brought these up? There I was, left alone, but these, where were they?'" (Isaiah 49:21^NKJ) Call to Prayer: What a prophetic picture of the "true Israel", who had lost his earthly manifestation of the heavenly kingdom of God at the fall of Jerusalem in 587 B.C.Since losing "children" and the city of Jerusalem being desolated, the believing remnant experienced captivity and dislocation, even throughout the time of JESUS. However, at Pentecost, 3,000 Jews from every nation "gladly received the Word" and were baptized and added to the Church. (Acts 2:41)Then the Gentiles began to visibly flood into the visible Body of Christ from the preaching of the apostles - the missionaries of their day. Had not JESUS promised, "And other sheep I have, which are not of this fold: them also I must bring, and they shall hear My voice; and there shall be one fold, //and //one Shepherd" (John 10:16)?Christ, who "is our peace, has made both [Jewish and Gentile believer] one, and has broken down the middle wall of partition //between us//."(Ephesians 2:14)God continues to visibly populate the Heavenly Jerusalem with "the mystery of Christ, . . . that the Gentiles should be fellow heirs, of the same body, and partakers of His promise in Christ through the gospel." (Ephesians 3:4-6)/ Are we praying and fasting for future Pentecosts? DAY 17: Scripture Reading: "Thus says the Lord GOD: 'Behold, I will lift My hand in an oath to the nations, and set up My standard for the peoples; They shall bring your sons in their arms, and your daughters shall be carried on their shoulders; " (Isaiah 49:22^NKJ) Call to Prayer: Through the Good News of Christ preached in the power of the Holy Spirit, God will set our Lord as a Banner to the peoples of the earth."Not that we are sufficient of ourselves to think any thing as of ourselves, but our sufficiency //is //of God. Who also has made us able ministers of the new testament, not of the letter, but of the spirit: for the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life." (II Corinthians 3:5-6)/ In the latter days, the Gentiles will actually end up bringing Jewish people among all nations to faith in Christ. Therefore, we should never discount the priority of our taking the Gospel to the Jew first. "For I am not ashamed of the Gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first, and also to the Greek." (Romans 1:16) Salvation has come to the Nations "to provoke [the hardened, unbelieving Jews] to jealousy". (Romans 11:11) After "the fullness of the Gentiles has come in" (Romans 11:25), there will be yet a major national Jewish turning to Christ. "And so all Israel shall be saved, as it is written, 'There shall come out of Zion the Deliverer, and shall turn away ungodliness from Jacob.'" (Romans 11:26; cited Isaiah 59:20,21) Are we praying and fasting that the Nations might bring more of their children to Christ for blessing? DAY 18: Scripture Reading: "And kings shall be your nursing fathers, and their queens your nursing mothers: they shall bow down to you with their face toward the earth, and lick up the dust of your feet; and you shall know that I am the LORD: for they shall not be ashamed that wait for Me." (Isaiah 49:23) Call to Prayer: As we wait on the LORD - part of which is prayer and fasting (Esther 9:31; Luke 2:37; II Corinthians 6:5; 11:27) - God promises that we shall not be ashamed. There is no Church, family or individual that "waits" upon God, who will not be rewarded, or see fruit. What should obedient believers do? "I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men, for kings, and for all that are in authority, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty. For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior, who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth, for there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, who gave himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time. (I Timothy 2:1-7) Our peace in our lands as believers depends upon the faithfulness of our determined, deliberate and intense intercession for the salvation of men and women, and the promised answers that come from effectual prayer. (James 5:16) Then, and only then, will "kings" will be our guardians, and "queens" will be our care givers. Are we praying and fasting enough for the salvation of top leaders, government officials and all men? DAY 19: Scripture Reading: "Can the prey be taken from the mighty, or the captives of a tyrant be rescued? (Isaiah 49:24 - English Standard Version [ESV]) Call to Prayer: Can we as the Church, families or individuals just go through our lives in a nation, among a people or relating to cultures just any way - that is, believing or not believing anything we want, doing or not doing anything we want, and propagating or not propagating any we want, without suffering dire consequences from our Creator? Israel had learned anew and afresh that she could not. Today, the western Church and its declining membership, for example, are in the danger. God destroyed the nation of Germany twice through two World Wars in less than twenty-five years because of the Church's apostasy in that great birthplace of the Reformation. From the damning and deadly effects of the "new" theory of evolution, to the destructive, higher criticism of the Holy Scriptures, Germany filled its spiritual void with a dictator with deep roots into Nordic paganism and the occult. As always, there was a faithful remnant amidst the people facing the judgment of God and coming disaster on their nation, and on their culture which had rejected the Lord's infallible Word. Therefore, as evil looms, the question becomes, "Is there any hope? "God promises to deliver. Are we spending enough time in prayer and fasting to escape from the hand of the “tyrant”? DAY 20: Scripture Reading: "But thus says the LORD, 'Even the captives of the mighty shall be taken away, and the prey of the terrible shall be delivered: for I will contend with him that contends with you, and I will save your children.'" (Isaiah 49:25) Call to Prayer: God promises to deliver us and our children. However, is there a condition? "Behold, the LORD'S hand is not shortened, that it cannot save; neither his ear heavy, that it cannot hear: But your iniquities have separated between you and your God, and your sins have hid his face from you, that he will not hear. . . . The way of peace they know not; and there is no judgment in their goings: they have made them crooked paths: whosoever goes therein shall not know peace. Therefore is judgment far from us, neither does righteousness overtake us: we wait for light, but behold obscurity; for brightness, but we walk in darkness." (Isaiah 59:1-2, 8, 9) Notice, that God condemns His people because "judgment" was far from them, neither was "righteousness" a growing trend (59:9). How does deliverance come about?: Individual judgment of our sins leads to individual righteousness in Christ; likewise family judgment to family righteousness; church judgment to church righteousness; national judgment to national righteousness. (59:10-21; I Corinthians 11:31,32) Are we praying and fasting for ourselves and others for deliverance from impossible situations on all four levels? DAY 21: Scripture Reading: "And I will feed them that oppress you with their own flesh; and they shall be drunken with their own blood, as with sweet wine; and all flesh shall know that I the LORD am your Savior and your Redeemer, the mighty One of Jacob." (Isaiah 49:26) Call to Prayer: Whatever happens to us as God's people, we can rest assured that God will judge those who trouble us. "So that we ourselves glory in you in the churches of God for your patience and faith in all your persecutions and tribulations that you endure; which is a manifest token of the righteous judgment of God, that you may be counted worthy of the kingdom of God, for which you also suffer; seeing it is a righteous thing with God to recompense tribulation to them that trouble you. And, to you who are troubled rest with us, when the Lord Jesus shall be revealed from heaven with His mighty angels, in flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God, and that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ; who shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord, and from the glory of his power; when He shall come to be glorified in his saints, and to be admired in all them that believe (because our testimony among you was believed) in that day. Wherefore also we pray always for you, that our God would count you worthy of this calling, and fulfill all the good pleasure of His goodness, and the work of faith with power, that the name of our Lord Jesus Christ may be glorified in you, and you in Him, according to the grace of our God and the Lord Jesus Christ." (II Thessalonians 1:4-12) Are we praying and fasting to be faithful until He comes? |
